What To Expect
We look forward to your visit to Summit Woods.
Getting here
You can enter the Summit Woods parking lot from the south on Blue Parkway (Outer Road) or from the north on Shenandoah Drive (see the map).
Blue Parkway is gravel in front of the church – so you may prefer to come in from Shenandoah.
Parking
Guest, disabled, and parking for new and expecting moms is located on both sides of the front circle. Please feel free to make use of them.
Welcome Table
You’ll find information and resources about Summit Woods and our ministries at the Welcome Table in the front foyer. Here someone will be available to answer any questions and help you navigate our facility. If you need assistance, one of our friendly greeters at each entrance can direct you to this invaluable resource.
Pagers
If you have a child in one of the nursery or toddler classes, you will receive a vibrating pager. This will give you peace of mind as you are in Sunday School or the Worship Service to know that your child’s teachers can notify you anywhere in the building.
Equipping Classes & Children’s Sunday School
We have small group bible study available for all ages. The Sunday bulletin has a list of all the classes with the teacher’s names and classroom numbers. You will notice that adults have many options, so we encourage guests to feel free to try various classes before deciding which one is right for them. Please see the Welcome Table in the front foyer for help in finding the various classes and rooms.
Sunday Morning Gathering
Our morning gathering begins at 10:30 a.m. and is about an hour and a 1/2 long. You will see people from many different walks of life, ethnicities, and ages. Our music is a blend of both new and old songs. We don’t try and cater to any one generation, but rather choose songs that any generation can sing and appreciate. The longer you are with us, the more you will find the substance and style of our songs to emphasize the church singing together as one body. Our service is also flavored with Scripture reading and prayer. If you don’t have a Bible, there is one for you at your seat – feel free to take is as our gift to you. We encourage you to reflect carefully on what is read and join us in praying together as a church.
Children are dismissed to a dedicated children’s teaching time during the final song before the sermon. The classes and locations can be found in our weekly bulletin. When you see the choir leaving the platform, that is the the cue to take your children to the appropriate location. The largest portion of our service is devoted to teaching the Bible. Our sermons are generally 50 minutes to an hour in length and typically focus on a particular passage in the Bible that will be explained. A page in our weekly bulletin is dedicated for you to take down the main points and any relevant points for further and future reflection. At the conclusion of our service, we sing a song that helps us to appropriately respond to what we have heard in the teaching. If you would like to speak with someone about a particular response or need prayer, feel free to come up during that song. Elders will be available to meet with you during our song of response as well as at the front of the Worship Center and in the Front Foyer after the service is dismissed.
